Equidad de género en la participación de conferencistas en los congresos de la Sociedad Argentina de Reumatología

Resumen

Introducción: varios estudios han documentado que las reumatólogas están subrepresentadas en la medicina académica. Objetivos: Describir la proporción de disertantes mujeres y varones en el congreso anual de reumatología organizado por la Sociedad Argentina de Reumatología (SAR). Métodos: se enumeraron a través de la revisión de los programas científicos los disertantes médicos reumatólogos de pacientes adultos nacionales y extranjeros que participaron de los congresos anuales de la SAR durante el período 2019-2023. Se excluyeron pediatras y otras especialidades. Resultados: ciento ochenta y tres conferencistas participaron en los congresos anuales de la SAR en el período 2019-2023. La mediana de edad fue 51 años (RIC 33-87), 94 eran varones (51,4 %), y 117 fueron invitados nacionales (63,9 %). La mediana de tiempo en la especialidad fue 22 años (RIC 11-30). El 42,1 % trabajaban tanto en el medio público como privado. Losvarones tenían significativamente mayor edad y mayor tiempo en la especialidad en comparación con las mujeres. Solo un tercio de conferencistas (32,2 %) participó en los simposios de la industria farmacéutica. El promedio de conferencias generales y simposios por disertante fue equivalente entre ambos sexos. Mayor proporción de mujeres participó en las conferencias generales vs. varones (54 % vs. 46 %, respectivamente, p= 0,002). Por el contrario, los varones participaron con mayor frecuencia de los simposios auspiciados por la industria farmacéutica vs. las mujeres (66,1 % vs. 33,9 %, respectivamente, p= 0,007). Esta diferencia fue semejante al comparar el género de los oradores según el número total de conferencias generales (mujeres 54 %vs. hombres 46 %, p= 0,054) y simposios (hombre 68,6 % vs. mujeres 31,4 %, p= 0,0001). Conclusión: aunque las conferencias generales de los congresos evaluados fueron dictadas más frecuentemente por mujeres, esta relación se invierte en los simposios de la industria farmacéutica.
